Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire (February 27, 2010 - Toronto ON). Pointe Claire is a quiet neighborhood that is located in the West Island, which is part of the Montreal island. Many people unfamiliar with the word tend to think there is a separate island to the west of Montreal but in fact the West Island is home to all things from the city of Lachine west. Amanda Brugel grew up on this island, and it is often referred to as her birthplace. But she only resided there for a very short period of time. Brugel was raised on Courtice close to Oshawa in Ontario. She wanted to become a professional dancer, but due to an explosive growth spurt she outgrew every dance partner she met. In an interview with the Toronto Star, she confessed that "In heels I'm 6 feet 1 inches." When I grew out of my male counterparts, I gave up. Former dancers often turn into acting. In the case of Brugel, it was a suggestion from her high school drama teacher. The teacher recommended that she audition for an annual school play. She auditioned and was cast in the role of Anne of Green Gables. It led to her receiving the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship from York University. In 2000 she graduated with a Master of Fine Arts at York University. In the past 20 years, Brugel's work has been featured on both the large and small screen. The most notable was her recognition when she landed her character of Rita in the award-winning television show The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the only Canadian cast member in Season 1 of the series, and only seen occasionally.
